About the Park
Red brick paths wind through Sahalli Park, defining small green spaces perfect for picnicking, resting, or viewing the neighbourhood from atop one of the knolls. The playground and community garden adds colour and animation to this welcoming park.
History
Sahalli means “high place or ground”. It is from the Chinook Jargon, a language that aboriginal people and the first European pioneers developed in order to trade and communicate, blending Indigenous, French and English words. It’s very interesting to note that from the early 1800s to the 1920s, over 80% of Vancouver’s population spoke and understood Chinook Jargon with many people citing it as their first language. Other familiar Jargon words are “salt chuck” (the ocean); hyak (fast); skookum (powerful) and high muckamuck (chief boss).

The Park Board named this site following a public consultation process in February 2005.
