Artist statement
We see words slowly formed in ink at the end of an old fashioned pen. These words were used by the Canadian Government as an apology to the First Nations peoples for the Residential School programme. The ancient pen represents the historical injustices at the same time as turning the viewer into the writer by carefully observing each word being formed. The chosen phrase tries to quantify the enormity of the numbers of First Nations peoples affected. It is graphic at the same time as being utterly unquantifiable.
