Theatre Replacement is an ongoing collaboration between James Long and Maiko Yamamoto. Whether working together or apart, the pair work with a wide range of collaborators and use extended processes to create performances, events and public art projects from intentionally simple beginnings. Their work is about a genuine attempt to coexist. Conversations, interviews and arguments collide with Yamamoto and Long’s aesthetics, resulting in theatrical experiences that are authentic, immediate and hopeful. The company continues to build and tour work, and has been presented at internationally recognized festivals and venues including Festival TransAmériques (Montréal), Fusebox Festival (Austin, TX), Noorderzon Festival (Groningen, NL), Dublin Theatre Festival (Ireland), Soho Rep. (New York), artsdepot (London) and Meteor Festival (Norway). In 2019, Yamamoto and Long were the first co-recipients of the Siminovitch Prize in Directing, Canada’s largest prize in recognition of innovation and excellence in theatre.
