Weiner is a well-known name in conceptual, text-based art work, based on the premise that art is a space of ideas and the work is relevant whether it is actually made or only alluded to. Text has been Weiner's primary medium since the late 1960s. He has been exhibiting since 1960. He lives in New York and Amsterdam. He has had numerous solo exhibition including at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (1991), Dia Center for the Arts, New York (1991), Musée d’Art Contemporain, Bordeaux (1991, 1992), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (1992), Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (1994), and Museum Ludwig, Cologne (1995). He has also published numerous books and produced films and videos.
