Artist statement

Ryley O’Byrne’s Dissolution is a two channel video work contemplating the nature of reality, the body, and intimacy in the space where technology and humanity entwine. The project is composed of videos and images from O’Byrne’s digital archive and an obsessive documentation of the blooming of her virtual life during the time of social distancing and lockdown.

Cell phone videos, screen recordings, glitch animations, and characters and images created using artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, come together to form this fever-dream portrait of contemporary life.
