The WALL at CBC
Description of work

The WALL is a Vancouver Heritage Foundation public art initiative. It is made possible by a partnership between Vancouver Heritage Foundation and CBC Radio-Canada, and is produced in partnership with the City of Vancouver Public Art Program. The WALL features a new artist every year.

Artist statement

ShowBoat is a composite image weaving together archival images of the built and natural environment. Using the CBC and City of Vancouver Archives, viewpoints and time periods are collapsed and collaged together. In patterning and stitching these images in wool, a tapestry is formed across a grid of plastic canvas.

ShowBoat pays homage to Canadian Modernism: the graphic banners of Takao Tanabe, Burton Kramer’s 1974 CBC Logo, and B.C. Binning’s glass mosaic tile murals and his oil-painted “Summer Sun” (1965) set the stage.
